Sometimes Less is More

I have personally been to the point of complete misery due to the amount of stress my job was putting on me. In retrospect, I never thought about why I was putting myself through that much stress. Yes, I had a family and bills, but everyone has bills and responsibilities. My question is why do we take misery over happiness?

People work themselves into depression, drugs, and alcoholism just to be successful. At what point must you re-term “Successful?” If you are providing for your family that’s great and necessary, but at what cost? My point is, I believe everyone needs to take time to reassess and reset. When I noticed how miserable and stressed I was I took a few days off and went hiking. Alone. No wife, no kids, no one but me and the great outdoors. There is something about reconnecting to nature that can reset your soul and tell how caught up you are in the parts of life that don’t matter.

When I returned home, I realized it was time to make a big change. I looked at my bills and figured out what I could make per year to take care of my family without the stress of a miserable job. I decided what I wanted to do, and though it wasn’t a dream job of mine, it was a job that was less hours and it gave me time to start my sidegig to make “fun money.” This was the money I was making from something that didn’t feel like work.

So if you’re feeling off and stressed, give yourself a reassess and reset sometime. It will amaze you how much more you can get out of life even if you’re making less.
